Onnie Artists

Willie L. Williams Jr. is a multitalented artist from Chicago, Illinois.

At an early age, Willie discovered his talents for playing the drums and singing. Inspired by his former classmates and musical icons, “The Miracles” featuring Bill “Smokey” Robinson, he formed his owned trio called the Nutones.  He found himself imitating Smokey in public performances.

The Nutones were a local success, with band members that included Reynard Minor and Deluxa (Dee) Clark. They performed local talent shows. Another lifelong friend, Stevie Wonder, served as a role model for Willie on his musical quest.

Willie invited a friend, Nate Thomas, to become his manager. He then decided to become a singer, playing the drums or piano on occasion.

After performing with The Nutones, Willie worked with Al Curtis at the Ben Arden Booking Agency and made records for ABC-Paramount, RCA, and Lakeside. After working with Al, he has toured worldwide, performing at multiple venues, including senior citizen and disabled homes. He also appeared on shows set by guest artists such as Al Green and considers the blues to be his natural form of expression.

In 2011, Willie had a radio show called, “The Blind Boys Blues Hour” and promoted his CD “Blind Boy Shuffle”.

Willie is currently working with Kenny Coleman from Onnie Music, coordinating his latest national tour with The Chicago Blues Kings featuring the legends of Billy Boy Arnold, James Wheeler, and Jimmy Burns, as well as Lazer Lloyd, the Israeli Blues King.

Willie earned both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Illinois.
